Luminus was a winner on "The Bong Show" which was a talent show on the Soulbeat Telivision Network. Soulbeat TV was the brainchild of Mr. Chuck Johnson (1939-2004) and first aired in 1978. Mr. Johnson had created a public and community based television outlet for the residents of Oakland and was the only "truly" Black owned TV network in the nation. Soulbeat featured all the latest R&B, Soul, and Hip Hop videos and broadcast 24 hours a day 7 days a week. They would have interviews with various local and international celebrities, provide low cost advertising for local businesses, and play host to the "Bong Show", a talent show for up and coming dancers, singers, and rappers in Oakland, CA. Soulbeat provided a "before they were stars" glimpse at the likes of Tupac, MC Hammer, Pebbles, Tony Toni Tone', and Too Short. Soulbeat broke a lot of these artists videos when the major video programs such as MTV and BET would not. Comedians Luenell and Mark Curry also cut their teeth on Soulbeat.
